We are in the process of phasing out the Theophilos program. Details are below, but the important facts are these:
Theophilos Bible Software LLC is a wholly owned subsidiary of Laridian, Inc., creators of PocketBible for a variety of mobile and desktop platforms. Laridian purchased Theophilos at the end of 2006 as a way to experiment with the freeware distribution model of Bible software and as a way to create another sales channel for the Bibles and Bible reference books it distributes for PocketBible. The freeware experiment was successful, and as a result, Laridian began distributing its PocketBible software as freeware also. The alternative sales channel experiment was less successful; Theophilos has failed to generate sufficient revenue to justify any further development of the product. It has been "coasting" under its own momentum for several years now. The preferred migration path for existing Theophilos users is to contact Laridian to have their purchases transfered to its PocketBible program. PocketBible is entirely different and separate from Theophilos. No attempt has been made to implement Theophilos features in PocketBible. However, the commercial (non-free) resources of Theophilos are all available for PocketBible, as are many of the free resources. Notable exceptions are the free non-English Bibles, the user-contributed titles, and much of the content of the Theophilos CDs that are not downloadable from the website. Laridian can be contacted at support@laridian.com. They cannot provide support for Theophilos, but they can transfer your add-ons as described above. This website is being left online. There is no plan to disable the ability of Theophilos users to download any content to which they previously had access. Technical support is no longer available. If you have questions, check the FAQs. Virtually every question we have ever been asked is answered there. We regret that this decision has become necessary but believe this plan to migrate users to PocketBible and to leave the website in place indefinitely is a reasonable path to discontinuing the product with the least amount of pain to users. To convert to PocketBible:
If you have not purchased books for Theophilos, there is no need to transfer ownership of anything to PocketBible. You can simply download the free PocketBible app and begin using it. With the exception of the KJV with Strong's numbers, everything that was free in Theophilos and is available in PocketBible is also free in PocketBible. |

Theophilos Bible Software LLC announces a reduction in price on the professional edition of its Scribe book creation tool for Theophilos. Previously sold for $199.95, Scribe Pro will now be available for $99.95. Scribe allows users of Theophilos to create their own modules such as commentaries, dictionaries, or general writings for use in the program alongside the Bibles and reference books that make up their library. The basic edition of Scribe sells for $29.95 and allows anyone -- Bible software user or Christian publisher -- to create DRM-free books that are compatible with Theophilos. The professional edition adds simple DRM (digital rights management) so that books can be distributed freely but only accessed upon purchase of an unlocking code. Scribe users have the option of submitting their books to Theophilos for sale or distribution at our site, subject to our approval and acceptance of a simple distribution agreement. Theophilos Bible Software LLC announces three additional Bibles for use with its popular Theophilos Bible Software for Windows. The New International Version (NIV) has been updated to reflect current English usage, and the price has been further reduced from an affordable $19.99 to a low $9.99. More information about this latest update to the NIV is available at www.biblica.com/niv/translation-status. Note that this is not an "upgrade" for owners of the previously offered 1984 edition of the NIV. Current NIV owners will have to purchase the NIV 2011. Both versions of the NIV can live side-by-side in Theophilos, with the 2011 version identified as "NIV11". Current owners can re-download the 1984 NIV but it can no longer be purchased from the site. Two additional translations have also been added to the Theophilos library: The New King James Version (NKJV) and The Message paraphrase. These two Bibles have been frequently requested by Theophilos users and we're happy to be able to offer them now for use in Theophilos. |

Just released for Theophilos, twenty one titles from 19th century South African pastor Andrew Murray:
All these books are available in one convenient collection for Theophilos for $9.99. Andrew Murray was born on May 9th, 1828 in a Dutch Reformed parsonage in Graaff Reinet, South Africa, the son of Rev. Andrew Murray, Sr. In 1838, at the age of ten, he left home with his brother John to study in Scotland, while staying with their uncle, the Rev. John Murray. In the spring of 1840 their uncle introduced the boys to the revival ministry of Rev. William C. Burns. This renowned Scottish evangelist left a deep impression on the youthful Christian. Years later, he could still vividly recall the power of Burns' godly influence on his life. His sincerity, fervent praying, and penetrating sermons helped Murray define his own personal ministry and calling. He graduated from Marischal College in 1844 and was ordained with his brother at The Hague on his twentieth birthday, leaving soon afterwards to begin their work in South Africa. In 1860, he accepted a call to pastor the church at Worcester. Revival broke out in his church while serving there. Initially, he opposed the revival because he felt uncomfortable with the emotional responses of his parishioners to the moving of the Holy Spirit. He eventually accepted these manifestations and became a man of prayer himself. The lessons learned during this revival prepared Andrew Murray for his future role in the Keswick movement. He also attended his first Keswick Convention in 1882. By 1895, he was asked to speak at both the Keswick and Northfield Conventions. He was warmly received at these conferences and was later responsible for bringing the Keswick movement to South Africa. The Keswick Convention lead to a spiritual awakening ("Third Great Awakening") that touched four continents. A renewed faith, a vision for personal holiness, and the Spirit-filled life were the messages and heartbeats of Andrew Murray's personal ministry. He was a man of rare gifts and deep spiritual insight. He penned over forty-five books during his ministry. This collection was published for Theophilos by Heritage Educational Systems aka LightByDesign. |
